Thanksgiving 2020

2020 struck again this Thanksgiving with several mishaps that caused our traditional holiday meal at Grandmommy and Grandaddy's house to be rescheduled. Aunt Peach and Uncle Drew were STILL waiting on COVID results after an exposure earlier in the month, Jay fell in the yard and severely twisted his ankle, and Grandmommy's sink leaked while she was defrosting the turkey and resulted in a plumber visiting. You cannot make this stuff up. It was a very 2020 day.

Gram and Grumps treated us to a delicious meal at Piccadilly for our Thanksgiving feast. We definitely missed Grandmommy's cooking, but we are looking forward to making up for it next weekend!

Bockle was able to find our new house and has already been hiding and reporting to Santa each night.

Gram and Grumps hosted 21 people yesterday at their house for the Corbitt/Wehr Thanksgiving event. We accidentily showed up an hour late (Sorry Mom!), but we ate and visited all day. The cousins are all very close in age and play so well together- we barely saw them after they left the table! Jay and I have officially hit the point in parenthood when we can sit at a table, eat a full meal, and finish complete sentences with adults. No more chasing babies and toddlers and making sure they are not destroying the house! :)

The weather is turning COLD tonight with the possibility of snow this week. It feels like Christmas now.

The Perfect Weekend

Our Thanksgiving Break started off with a perfect weekend for everyone. Daddy took off with the boys for a camping trip with the Burke guys. Their first stop was our favorite Dahlonega dive restaurant for breakfast, and then they off roaded in the Jeep (with Tuttle driving most of the time). The crew hiked, made hotdogs and smores on the fire, and even helped a stranded brother/sister pair on the trail. I know this will be the first of many memorable camping trips for my boys!

Maggie stayed with Gram and Grumps all weekend, so I could have a weekend alone. She was spoiled with A LOT of candy, movies, shopping, and attention. I celebrated an empty house by staying in bed 90% of the weekend. It was such a luxury to sleep and read and watch trashy television for almost two days! Rosie even sneaked into the bed one night and cuddled up until 3am.

Jay has taken the entire week off for Thanksgiving, and we are loving the extra time with him. Even though he works from home now, he is always so busy with meetings and phone calls that we do not really see him until dinner. He deserves this break the most of anyone in the family!

We are trying to tackle some home projects, and everyone helped out in the yard. We took family photos with a new photography in our backyard yesterday evening, and I cannot wait to share what she captured!

The Final Push

This week has been the final push before Thanksgiving Break, and everyone has been busy wrapping things up before a week of vacation. Jay has been super busy at work and barely leaving his desk to eat. He has definitely earned some relaxation for the holiday!

Tuttle worked hard to prepare for a big math test. He proudly came home with a 96% today after a lot of stress and studying. I have really tried to give Tuttle more independance this year in 5th grade and allow him to take leadership in his performance to prepare for middle school. I do not check him homework unless he asks, and he is responsible for studying and seeking extra help, if needed. He has really rose to the challenge and maintained all A's on his own.

Maggie is still in a cast and moving through life with only one hand. We go for another follow up tomorrow with the orthopedist, but I have no idea what to expect. The whole injury has been a much bigger deal than I initially expected it to be! It has not stopped her from attending gymnastics, but she has to condition when she cannot safely perform the routines.

Jacob enjoyed a feast today in preschool. He requested that I bring corn-on-the cob. There is nothing cuter than a little boy dressed up for a Thanksgiving celebration!

We might be breaking out the Christmas a little early this year, but 2020 gives you a pass to celebrate as much as possible whenever you wish!

Life with an ER Trip

The much anticipated election finally happened, and while there is still a lot of drama surrounding the results, we are choosing to stay positive.

We are absolutely loving the suburban fall leaves. The temperature may not be cooperating with high 70s during the day, but the views we get from our back porch and driving to school are making up for it! Jacob used some leaves for a preschool project to disguise his turkey from being eaten on Thanksgiving by turning him into a fall tree.

Aunt Peach and I are hoping to develop a new playdate on Fridays. We met up at a local park with Holland and Piper, and the cousins ran and played for hours. We love living closer to the Peace Family.

Our big event of the weekend was on Sunday afternoon when Maggie accidentily slammed her finger in the back door. It resulted in a lot of blood and tears. Just to be safe we took her to Urgent Care to get evaluated, and the doctor sent us to the ER since it was so severe. After over five hours at the hospital, Maggie was a real trooper and had her nail completely removed, the lacerated nail bed stitched, and then her nail reattached to help with future growth of a new and healthy nail. She left with a huge splint and a lot of bragging rights. I am so glad that Jay pushed to take her in.

We have been so lucky this school year with no exposure to COVID and no quarantines from class. I am hoping this continues, but I am slightly nervous as we enter flu and cold season. All the prayers are welcome!

Halloween 2020

We finally convinced Ms. Jenna to come see our new house for our annual pumpkin carving contest. Ever since COVID, she has been staying close to home, so we were thrilled when she agreed to head our way. It would not be the same carving without our favorite neighbor. Tuttle decided that he would be independent this year, and he blew us away with his skills on his poop emoji pumpkin. He was the clear winner with the social media votes! (Jacob also created a one-of-a-kind creation.)

Jacob was "Star Student" this week and brought his favorite Halloween books and treats for his preschool buddies.

The weather turned our week upside down with the effects of Hurricane Zeta and left us without power for almost 20 hours, and school was cancelled for two days because so many roads were out of commission with fallen trees and power outages. The kids and I took full advantage of sleeping in.

Halloween finally arrived on Saturday, and Maggie literally counted down the hours to get dressed up. I let the kids have complete control of their looks still year, and this included creepy costumes.

We loved exploring our new neighborhood and collecting ALL. THE. CANDY. We bumped into several favorite families along the way. The kids went hard trick or treating for over two hours before we walked home to assess their candy collections.

Halloween felt actually felt normal. We are hoping the rest of the holidays follow suit.
