Jacob's "Time Flies" Party

We celebrated Jacob's 1st birthday on Saturday with a "Time Flies" theme complete with airplane decorations and cupcakes.

Jacob was extremely lucky to have so many friends and family attend the party. Everyone enjoyed the 70+ degree weather and spent most of the time outside.

In true Jacob fashion, he did not disappoint with his smash cake. He seemed surprised that no one was stopping him! That little boy loves to create a mess!

We attempted a photo with all five grandchildren with Granddaddy and Grandmommy. This shot completely sums up everyone's personality. :)

Jacob is officially ONE, and we cannot get enough of his energy! We love you, Little Boy!

Happy 1st Birthday, Jacob!

Jacob Corbitt Thorne has been a part of our family for twelve months now. A whole year!

We are about as shocked as Jacob looks in this picture. How is one year already over with this sweet and busy boy? We celebrated Jacob's birthday with doughnuts at Bon Glaze on Wednesday. (We are saving the cake for his party tomorrow.)

We also fit in Jacob's first haircut for his special day. He was growing a little bit of a mullet, so the hair stylist cleaned him up. He loved sitting in the train!

We were right on schedule for Little Boy's checkup at the doctor. He weighs 21 pounds, 8 ounces (53%) and measures 30 1/4 inches (66%). Unfortunately the visit also included five shots. He needed extra snuggles last night, but since he never slows down, I soaked up the love.

Jacob is still drinking whole milk before naps and bedtime. He has really taken to his water bottle and drinks water throughout the day. He is getting a little pickier with his eating. His favorite foods include raisins, hot dog, pizza, eggs, strawberries, apples, Cheerios, peanut butter sandwich, breakfast bars, and broccoli. He likes to snack on pretzels and veggie sticks- one for each hand! I supplement during the day with a squeezie if we are on the go, or he did not eat enough veggies.

Jacob is definitely our champion sleeper. He goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until after 8am most days. He takes a 1.5-2 hour nap in the morning and a 1-1.5 hour nap in the afternoon if we are home. I do not know what I would do if he was not a good sleeper because his waking hours are exhausting!

Jacob's BIG milestone this past month was taking his first steps! Daddy tricked him into trying to get his phone while he held on the side table, and he took the bait! He can take 2-4 steps but still prefers crawling at full speed. I am shocked he is not walking yet considering he started crawling before six months! Jacob does everyone on his own time. :)

Jacob has five teeth now, and as much as I love his hugs, I am always ready for him to push his face into my shoulder and take a bite. I just hope that does not turn into an issue since neither Tuttle nor Maggie ever bit. Jacob always keeps me on my toes!

We cannot wait to officially celebrate our baby tomorrow with all our friends and family. I planned a "Time Flies" themed party with airplane decorations and clothing. This year with Jacob really has flown by, and we cannot wait to see what life with our one year old little boy has in store.

Christmas Break Is Over

We just officially got back into a routine today with work, school, and sports, and honestly everyone was ready to return to normal life. You can only have so much downtime. :)

We did pack in some more fun before the end of the break. One of Maggie's favorite gifts is her new Twister game. Naturally her gymnastics skills paid off!

We took a great family walk with the kids' new riding toys. Jacob felt like such a big boy in his new tricycle from Grandmommy and Grandaddy. We ventured to the elementary school playground and had a friendly family competition on an obstacle course. I really impressed myself with the monkey bars!

After car shopping with Daddy on his birthday, 12/29, we had Gram and Grumps keep all three kids, so we could really celebrate on Friday! I had organized for Jay's good friends to meet us for dinner and afterward we went in-door skydiving with one of the couples! The attraction had just opened up, and I was eager to do something adventurous for Jay's birthday.

Jay took to in-door skydiving immediately, but I choked with my first try and only lasted a few seconds. I just was not prepared for the amount of air pressure and literally felt like I could not breathe. I forced myself to try again for my second turn and completed my time including the high flight with the instructor. It was definitely a unique experience, and Jay loved it. I will not be jumping out of a plane anytime soon, though.

On New Years Day I wanted to start the year off right by attending church with the kids. Daddy stayed home to get a jump on taking down the outside decorations. I was so proud of myself for arriving early to the service only to find there was no childcare. We only lasted through the first song in big church until Jacob was too determined to crawl as fast as he could up the center aisle and threw a fit when I did not let him. At least they looked adorable for church....

We fit in one last adventure before school started. Tuttle and Maggie have been asking to visit the World of Coke for a while now, so Gram treated us to a fun morning. We learned about the history of Coke, checked out a bottling exhibit, watched a 4D movie (which terrified Maggie and Jacob), and ended in the anticipated tasting room. Maggie and Tuttle went to town trying as many Coke products as they could- a treat they rarely experience at home. The Varsity was the perfect place to grab lunch afterwards. Thanks for a great field trip, Gram!

While the kids did go back to school today, snow is predicted for tomorrow night, so both kids are released two hours early tomorrow. We are hoping for some snow to stick, so we can use our sleds from Grandmommy for some fun!

Time to bundle up!
