Funny Toddler Talk

While I recognize that I probably find Tuttle much funnier than people who are not his parent do, I have been cracking up at some things he has been saying lately. I want to make sure I do not forget his clever comebacks! :)

1. If I ask him to go potty before we go somewhere or before going to sleep, he will attempt to go, but if he cannot successfully potty, he will shout from the bathroom, "Thanks for trying." Obviously his teacher says this to students at school during the potty break. She cracked up laughing when I told her that he does this consistantly.

2. Yesterday after running into a pregnant friend, I asked Tuttle if he wanted Mommy to have another baby. He responded, "No more babies. Enough. Sorry, Mommy."

3. Before Maggie was born, I explained to Tuttle that he could not give her anything to eat because she did not have any teeth. Apparently this idea took on a new meaning because Maggie cannot do anything that Tuttle can do because she has no teeth (go to school, use the potty, watch a televison show.) Furthermore other people, like Grandaddy or Grumps, cannot do particular activities because they don't have any teeth according to Tuttle. To clarify, Grandaddy and Grumps have all their teeth.

Never a dull moment.

A Few Pictures

Why does Tuttle look 14 in this picture?? :(

Pure Sweetness.

Today Tuttle held a carwash complete with a brush scrub and a towel dry. We have gotten creative during these cold February days! :)

I kinda love these babies.

Happy Seven Months, Maggie Ruth!

Margaret Ruth Thorne has been a part of our family for seven months now.

At seven months, Maggie

  • is 15 pounds (weighed at home)
  • about 26 inches long (measured at home with a roly poly baby!)
  • eats four six ounces bottles each day (with a possible middle of the nights bottle) and eats baby food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She also LOVES puffs and will eat them until you are tired of feeding them to her!
  • seems to prefer fruits over vegetables, but she will eat almost everything. She likes all the baby food best out of the refrigerator.
  • wears mostly 6-9m clothes and a couple Baby Gap 6-12 month clothes. Since most of the clothes are for spring, I layer them with sweaters and tights.
  • goes to bed between 6:45-7:15, usually wakes for a bottle between 9-10, and sometimes makes it until 7am or needs a bottle around 5am, but goes back to sleep until 7am. No, my baby still does not sleep through the night, but I honestly enjoy the quiet alone time if she does wake up when she will actually sit with me and snuggle!
  • has started to like to take a lovey to bed to snuggle with, but she is not attached to a particular one
  • still takes 15mg of Prevacid to control her acid reflux, but the doctor suggested I give her a half doses to see if she still needs it.
  • takes a morning nap in the swing, an afternoon nap around 1pm in her crib while Tuttle and Ellie nap (usually about an hour), and may take a cat nap in her swing before dinner.
  • is still successfully staying in the nursery at church and either plays or takes a nap in the swing there
  • has mastered sitting up completely but does not get upset if she lands on her tummy
  • spends every second that she can in her door bouncer and frequently falls asleep mid-jump
  • does not prefer to be held very long (Sad Mommy!) because it takes away from playtime
  • still loves the baby carrier and the stroller
  • plays extremely well independently- just as long as she has something to touch and pick up, she is very happy!
  • smiles at everyone, but she gives the biggest smiles to Daddy
  • will frequently get giggle fits around Tuttle, especially in the stroller or car
  • is plotting to start crawling any day now- I can see it in her eyes! :)
We love you, Maggie!!

First Official Sibling Bath

Aren't bath pictures of babies the BEST? Last night Tuttle and Maggie took their first official bath together. I have put Maggie in the tub before, but she had to sit in a Bumbo seat, and I had to hold onto her the entire time. Last night she sat in the tub like a big girl with her big brother. She LOVED it!

I could not get a good sibling picture with both babies, but that is nothing new! Maggie was too busy splashing and kicking to stop for the paparazzi!

Our Busy Weekend

The babies and I started the weekend with a little party Friday evening to celebrate Valentine's Day with my girlfriends and their babies. Val helped me host at my house, and everyone was asked to bring a Pinterest-inspried dessert. I picked up a few appetizers from Costco to balance all the sugar, too.

I made a raspberry ice cream dessert with Cool Whip, vanilla, frozen raspberries, and sugar. It was super easy to make and very refreshing. :)

I had the best time catching up with the girls. Tuttle was allowed to stay up WAY past his bedtime to play with Connor, and he loved every minute. He chased her all over the house trying to kiss her, but she insisted that he not kiss her on the mouth!

Everyone insisted we get together more often. I agree 100%!

We let Jay sleep in Saturday morning and went to watch Stella's basketball game. Stella and Dylan are the children I began nannying when I was pregnant with Tuttle. I continued to watch them off and on while Tuttle was a baby as well as the summer I was pregnant with Maggie. I absolutely love these kids, and I am so happy that we are still a part of their lives.

It amazes me how much Tuttle has grown since I met Stella and Dylan. Now he really interacts with them on a friend level. Tuttle is always ready to jump in with the big kids.

Tuttle was extremely interested in the basketball game. He actually sat in his chair and watched almost the entire time. I think I may sign him up next year at the YMCA to play on his own team.

Stella was surprised when I offered to let her hold Maggie. I wish Stella was old enough to babysit!

I look forward to more adventures with Stella and Dylan. I want to make sure they are always important friends in our lives.

Today was Jay's first day being a usher at church. We signed up to volunteer in different areas of the church, and ushering was Jay's pick. He has committed to the third Sunday of every month. I snapped a few pictures of the kids while we waited for their nursery teachers to arrive. Our entire family is really enjoying church, and I am thrilled that it is becoming habit that we attend each week. I have not missed a Sunday at church in eight weeks!

It has been a great weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Lots of Love from the Thorne Family!

Jay and I do not typically celebrate Valentine's Day because we like to show our love all year long, but the holiday is fun to celebrate with the babies!

I put together Tuttle's valentines for his friends at school last night. I showed him several ideas on Pinterest, and he picked the truck one, so I got to work! :)

Kristen and I were in charge of the Valentine's Day party at the preschool. We put together a little lunch with decorations from the Dollar Tree. I think it turned out really cute! I even used a cookie cutter on the cheese slices to make kissing lips!!

Maggie and Lily sat for a quick picture, but Ellie was on the move scooting all over the room!

I cannot believe the end of the school year in only three months away! Tuttle has learned a lot and had  so much fun with his sweet friends this year. We found out he will actually have the same teachers next year since he is transitioning to a M/W/F week. :)

I bribed Tuttle with his valentine treat bag to take a picture!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Disclaimer: It looks like taking three babies under three to a party is a piece of cake. It is much more stressful than it looks. Maggie was ready for a nap which resulted in a crying fit toward the end of the party, Ellie was a lady on a mission getting into all the fun new toys, and Tuttle was attempting to eat a cupcake in one bite which meant a very messy cleanup. I appreciate all the extra hands to help me, so I could attend and enjoy the party!

Big Boy Haircut

This past Thursday I took the plunge and took Tuttle to get a big boy haircut. I decided to do this for a couple reasons.

1. Tuttle HATES getting his haircut. I am not exaggerating when I say that he cries and squirms the entire time. I cannot believe the hairdresser can even cut his hair with his reaction. By cutting his hair short, I can go longer between haircuts and reduce the tears.

2. He has achieved so many big boy accomplishments recently that I wanted to give him a look to fit his big boy lifestyle. :) He is potty trained, sleeps in a big boy bed, and is such a great helper with the babies.

Jay is not such a fan of his haircut, but I do not think Tuttle could be more handsome. I love that boy to the moon and back!

A Sunny Day

Yesterday we had a little taste of spring with temperatures in the high 60's and tons of sunshine. Every time we walked outside Tuttle announced that it was a sunny day, and I could not wait to get the babies outside to enjoy it. I actually woke Tuttle up from his nap an hour early because the girls were ready to soak up some sun.

I love being able to take the stroller to the park from my house. We are a little over half a mile away, so I strap Maggie into the baby carrier, and Ellie and Tuttle ride in the double stroller. It gives me some necessary exercise on the way to meet friends to play. :)

Everyone in the neighborhood had the same idea that we had, so Tuttle had his pick of buddies to run around with him. He spent a lot of time with his classmate, Emily. They held hands down the slide over and over and ran all over the basketball court on the hill.

Aunt Peach met us at the park, as well. Tuttle and Maggie loved getting some extra snuggles, and I loved the extra help!

This might be my new favorite picture!

The park is perfect because it has a huge sandbox, playsets, swings, and room for the babies to play/relax on a blanket. I absolutely love our park! Can you tell???

I cannot wait to spend everyday outside this spring! I sure both girls will be walking by then, so things will be a little crazy!!

Maggie's Favorite Toy

Maggie officially has an favorite toy. She would spend hours playing with it if I did not make her try new things out during the day. She LOVES jumping in her door bouncer. Tuttle enjoyed his, as well, but Maggie is in Heaven when is she bouncing away! :)

Jay and I find it HILARIOUS that not only does she want to spend every second in the door jumper, but she has fallen asleep mid-jump on several occasions. Tuttle NEVER fell asleep in a toy or even the highchair. I always wondered how babies fell asleep in such uncomfortable positions from friends' pictures, but now I have seen it firsthand.

I caught her taking a little break from jumping this morning. Silly girl!

I have a feeling all this jumping is strengthening her legs to walk soon! :)
